Spying on Easton: The Future of the Avalon Theatre

April 8, 2015 by The Spy

Share

There was a riveting discussion about the future of the Avalon Theatre in downtown Easton at the last Town of Easton Council meeting on April 6th. On the table was a proposal for the town to transfer to the Avalon Foundation its existing share of the building for one dollar and contribute an additional $250,000 to help with immediate deferred maintenance issues.

While the town Council president, John Ford, made it clear that the town Council was not prepared to make a decision on the proposal that evening, there was still a very spirited debate during public comments on the viability of the Avalon assuming responsibility for not only the building, but the bulk of the almost $2 million estimate for basic repairs and capital improvements to the structure. Public comments are to be continued at the April 20 council meeting.

The Spy was able to capture some of those remarks.

This video is approximately fifteen minutes in length.
