Change is inevitable; nothing in our town is the same as it was when I was growing up here except for the people. We have always been and we remain a hard-working people who are not shy about expressing our thoughts and ideas. This very trait has created a town that has drawn many to call St. Michaels home and has created what can be a wonderful place to live. St. Michaels is a small town that has managed to maintain a leadership role within the county over the years. What St. Michaels decides to do on most issues others in the county attempt to copy or point to as the example to follow. We have maintained a focus over the past four years that has allowed us to not only maintain services but to increase them by providing curb side recycling to every resident. We have controlled spending and at the same time we were the only town to actually reduce taxes to both our citizens and our businesses. There is no other town in this area that can make that statement!
Recently, the town commission began a vision planning process that had us each stating what we saw are being important to the town over the next twenty or more years. The majority of us focused on the safety and security of our neighborhoods as primary need for the future of our town along with affordable services that benefit all of our citizens. I am running for reelection because I believe that we need a local government that can look beyond the low hanging fruit of budget cuts and layoffs as the only means to achieve our goals. We need to look beyond our own immediate future but the next generations as well and put in place sustainable programs focused on our long-term goals. If we continue to think outside the box on important issues we will continue to be thought of and looked to as leaders within the county and state. We need to continue down the path of shared responsibility and shared costs between the town and its employees and within the towns varied segments as a sustainable way of achieving our goals for a safe and secure town to grow up and to grow old in!
What I stand for:
Inclusive government that listens to all the people before making critical decisions and stands ready to answer questions in open public meetings or in face to face meetings
Fixing and maintaining our infrastructure, our roads, our sidewalks, and our water system in a timely manner
A well-trained and properly staffed Police Department that focuses on keeping our streets safe and communicates with local residents and business owners on a daily basis
A properly funded and supported Volunteer Fire Department
Continued focus on controlling spending, maintaining services and reducing taxes. We have already proven that these goals are attainable!
A cooperative partnership between citizens and businesses that focuses on improving and strengthening the community
A partnership with the county that provides focus on our issues

Donna Hunt always puts the good of the whole town first. Our town is bigger then just main street and we should be focues on all of it, not just the part that some tourists see!

It is certainly admirable that Ms Hunt’s biggest fan is her boyfriend, Mike Estrella. He is so very supportive of her, and even feels comfortable enough to write a letter to the editor (a couple of weeks ago) of the Star Democrat lifting up her up by mocking and criticizing one of her colleagues on the Commission. As the wife of one of the Commissioners, I wouldn’t dream of publicly criticizing another Commissioner. I regard it as a flamboyant disregard of boundaries, but perhaps I am just not quite so willing to set aside my civility to do so.
