One amazing 1890 photo taken at Knight Point Farm, Tunis Mills, Md. Everything is interesting to look at! Enjoy the carriage with lanterns, the dresses and the hats! This photo, donated by Debbie Shelhouse, had the ladies names written on the back. Sitting on the rear seat is Margaret W. Wilson, Mrs. Op Tunis is to the right on the front seat and the driver with the reigns is Bessie ( Elizabeth Hussy) Wilson.

Thank you for the great photo of three ladies in a carriage in Tunis Mills in the 1890s. The editor in me cannot resist pointing out that Miss Bessie Wilson is holding “reins,” which are defined as a leather strap, fastened to each end of the bit of a bridle, by which the rider or driver controls a horse or other animal. “Reigns” with a “g” is reserved for monarchs who reign over their subjects and lands.
