Saint Michaels High School was a soccer powerhouse in the mid/ late 1970’s and won several State Championships. The coach was the late Denver Leach. This picture is of the team’s trophy presentation after winning the 1975 Maryland State Soccer Championship! A special thanks to Elizabeth Swaine for sharing this picture and the facts about their record. Elizabeth also shared that there were two students from Belgium at that time that added greatly to the team’s victories. Do you have memories of those great soccer years at SMHS??

Coach Leach was a class act. His gift was the ability to connect with each of his students and athletes even if they weren’t all superstars. Many young men and women had a better experience at SMHS because he was always there with a smile, a laugh, or some timely advice. We have missed him greatly, but his legacy lives on with the many teachers and coaches that came after him. Elizabeth, thanks for sharing!
