This is the final weekend for the Tred Avon Players’ engaging murder mystery, “A Murder is Announced” by Leslie Darbon, and adapted from an Agatha Christie novel. Director John Swann along with assistant director, Jay Jupp, offer this enchanting whodunit
about a perfectly ordinary small English village thrown into chaos when a notice appears in the local paper, “A murder is announced and will take place on Friday, October 29th, at Little Paddocks, at 6:30 p.m.”
The people living there have no idea what the ad is about. Several villagers arrive at the house under the false pretenses of “just happened to be in the neighborhood”. At exactly 6:30, the lights go out and a man enters the room shining a flashlight in everyone’s face. Then shots are heard.
What follows is a classic Agatha Christie intrigue of diverse motives, concealed identities, more murder, and an indomitable Inspector to follow the twists and turns of the case. Enjoy intriguing, funny characters and Miss Marple at her best in deciphering the confusing clues and circumstances of the murders with a dramatic confrontation that will keep everyone guessing up to the final curtain.
This is John Swann’s directorial debut, but he has been involved with TAP since 2007 working with sound, lights, set design and construction, props, stage managing as well as a familiar face on the TAP stage. Swann says, “I am very fortunate to have “A Murder Is Announced” as my directorial debut at TAP. Having been on stage for many years and playing all the backstage roles as well, this is the next big thing! Following the theory of ‘surrounding yourself with people smarter than you’ I have an A-list production crew and a stellar cast! I can’t wait to see what we can create together!”
The cast is a talented group of newcomers and familiar TAP performers: Chris Asmussen, Bill Clear, Maggie Garey, Meg Ingold, Anna Kusinitz, Alison Lynch, David McCreary, Lynn Sanchez, Rob Sanchez, Sabiné Simonson, and Kim Wilson. The production crew is the perfect support team including stage manager Beth Driggs and assistant stage managers Barbara Rybacki and Barbara Mann. Producer Lisa Roth with Jesse Capps as set designer and prop master, light design by Skipper Marquess and Barry Sabo is light operator. Kevin Brown as sound operator and set construction by Lawrie Jessup, Andy Smith, Robert Lynch, and Jesse Capps.
