At Critchlow Adkins Children’s Centers, thoughts have turned to cooler temperatures as a committee of board members and staff works to plan for the organization’s annual fundraiser, titled “The Joy of Children: Little Engines that Can,” on November 2nd. Our annual gala and fundraiser celebrates the efforts of those who, despite many obstacles in our way in the past four and a half plus decades, helped CACC keep going on its way to a successful 46 years of enriching the lives of more than 9,000 children in our community! CACC’s story began in 1970 with eight children in two rooms at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. Now with five sites, we fund over $125,000 in scholarships annually through our Friends Fund, grants, and events such as our annual fundraiser. These are not easy tasks but with the help and support of the community, “We think we can” continue to raise happy, healthy children!
This year’s fundraiser features a fun night of celebration combined with the elegance of a gala style dinner. The Joy of Children, which will be held at the Talbot Country Club beginning at 6pm,will include cocktails, dinner, musical entertainment by Mule Train, as well as silent and live auctions.
CACC will also recognize Dr. Kelly Griffith, Superintendent of Talbot County Public Schools, for her leadership in Talbot County and the important partnership that CACC and TCPS have enjoyed since 1984. Four of CACC’s five sites are housed within Talbot County Public Schools.
“Whether or not your child or grandchild has attended Critchlow Adkins Children’s Centers, there is no doubt that every resident of Talbot County can say that their lives have been touched by Critchlow Atkins. Whether it is the person who is taking care of you or your loved ones, doing your taxes, preparing your dinner or perhaps working for you in your own business, the three generations worth of CACC children whose early childhood has been part of our story are an important part of this wonderful community we all know and love,” says Kristine George, Executive Director, CACC. “Helping be part of a child’s life during such a critical time in a child’s development is an honor for our teachers and we are grateful for the support to continue to provide such an important service.”
The proceeds from the Joy of Children directly benefit CACC’s tuition assistance program, which assures families from all walks of life can access quality enrichment programs for their children.
Tickets for the Joy of Children are $125 per person. Business and community sponsors are still needed and begin at the $250 level. Business and community sponsors will be listed on all event materials and promoted via CACC’s website and social media accounts.
CACC is a non-profit child care agency founded in 1970 as Easton Day Care. With five locations in Talbot County, CACC serves approximately 450 children annually ages 2-15 in preschool, pre-K, pre-K wrap and before and after school programs. A 10 week summer program is also offered. CACC offers tuition assistance. In 2013 CACC received the highest possible rating of check level 5 from MSDE’s EXCELS voluntary tiered quality rating system.
