The Easton Town Council is considering Ordinance 589, which would implement a mandatory curbside recycling program starting July 1st 2012. In practice, this would be a single-stream recycling program, allowing residents to recycle many more items from their curb without the need to sort as in the current “igloo” program.
That ordinance gives the council the ability to set recycling fees, which would likely cost about $6/month or $72/year for each residential property and would appear on the property tax bill similar to the way trash service is billed.
Each home would get a separate can for recyclables, with pickup once a week by a private contractor for the service.
The public hearing is set for Tuesday, January 17th at 7:00PM at the Easton Town Council Chambers, 22 Harrison St. in Easton.
