The Talbot County Arts Council has awarded summer arts scholarships to two Talbot County students who have just completed grades 9 through 11. This is the twelfth year such scholarships have been available. Funding for the program is provided by grants to the Arts Council from Talbot County and the Town of Easton.
The Arts Council’s Summer Arts Scholarship Committee that evaluated the applications and made recommendations to the board of directors was chaired Ronya J. Driscoll of Oxford and included Catherine Cripps, Leslie A. Hamburger, Richard L. Hott, and William P. Peak, Jr. The recipients of this year’s Summer Arts Scholarships are:
Jonathan Powell of Easton, who is completing his junior year at Easton High School, to study interactive media arts and illustration in the Pre-College Art Studio Program of the Delaware College of Art and Design in Wilmington during July16-20. He has had more than three years of previous instruction in the visual arts and was recommended by Garnette Hines, instructor in interactive media production in the EHS Career and Technology Department.
Ian Young of Easton, who is completing his sophomore year at Easton High School, for voice music studies in the summer intensive curriculum of the Broadway Artists Alliance in New York City during July 30-August 3. He has eight years of vocal music experience,
including participation in the EHS Chamber Singers and many musical theater productions. This is his third Summer Arts Scholarship. He was recommended by EHS music teacher Ellen Wile.
