“WOW, WOW, wow, wow, wow!!” This was the reaction of Bryan Bechtel of Newtown Square, PA upon hearing that he had won the 1965 Mustang convertible in the Rotary Club of St. Michaels raffle. Bryan told raffle coordinator David Shaw, “I have dreamed of owning a 60’s Mustang for most of my life. It is truly an honor and I cannot thank you and Rotary enough.”
St. Michaels Rotary has been raffling off a vintage Mustang every other year for over 15 years. This year’s tickets were sold mainly on Talbot Street in St. Michaels every weekend from late April until September when the last of the 8000 tickets were sold. The winning ticket was drawn on September 29, 2015 by Janel Hemmen, wife of Rotary District Governor Rob Hemmen.
The proceeds from the Mustang raffle will be used to fund the St. Michaels Rotary Foundation’s Scholarship Fund for the next two years, providing scholarships to deserving St. Michaels High School graduating seniors. In May 2015, Rotary presented $22,500 worth of scholarships.
