You really need to hand it to the Avalon Foundation for their annual Plein Air Easton program. There is nothing like seeing dozens of dedicated artists from all parts of the country converge on Talbot County, braving heat waves and unpredictable rain storms, to capture the perfection of an Eastern Shore Crape Myrtle or a Miles River sunset.
But perhaps the most remarkable thing about Plein Air is that these artists spend seven days documenting, in glorious ways, their impressions of Talbot County. From the sidewalks in Easton, to the Scottish Highland Creamery in Oxford, or the Maritime Museum’s lighthouse in St. Michaels, the Plein Air participants annually record, to our total delight, where we live and work.
The Spy caught up with the festival on Sunday to hear Plein Air’s 2017 judge, noted artist West Fraser, talk about the top three award winners and share some other delightful work by other special category winners.
For a complete list of winners please go the official Plein Air website.
