The Boston-based, “Modern American” string band Joy Kills Sorrow will grace the stage of the NightCat in Easton this coming Wednesday, November 16. They favor a somewhat unpredictable approach to music, a decidedly modern sensibility to an old-world sound, relying on musical chemistry and improvisation to effortlessly merge influences as diverse as folk, rock, pop, and jazz.
All of the members have been touted as virtuosos, and the early twenty-somethings effortlessly hunt for unexpected outcomes and new discoveries. “We like experimenting and stretching boundaries,” explains guitarist Matthew Arcara, an acoustic player gaining a name for himself as both an up-and-coming guitar slinger and luthier. Arcara has taken home several honors at various guitar competitions including Winfield’s National Flatpicking Championship in 2006.
