Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler will join with the leadership of Mid-Shore Pro Bono Inc. in Easton this Friday morning to present a grant award from the $26 billion National Mortgage Servicing Settlement.
Mid-Shore Pro Bono will use the funds to provide free or reduced-fee legal representation, foreclosure prevention workshops and educational programs for homeowners in Kent, Queen Anne’s, Caroline, Dorchester and Talbot counties who are facing trouble with their mortgage payments, foreclosure-affected bankruptcy, foreclosure mediations and debt collection.
The $26 billion National Mortgage Settlement with the nation’s five largest mortgage servicers -Ally/GMAC, Bank of America (Countrywide), Citi Bank, JPMorgan Chase (WaMu) and Wells Fargo (Wachovia) – was approved by a federal court in April, 2012. As of December 31, 2012, more than 14,000 Marylanders have received over $1.1 billion in assistance, including home mortgage modifications, principal reductions, deficiency waivers, refinancing and short sale financial assistance.
