A Unique Partnership Comes to a Close (For Now): Eat Sprouts and Meals on Wheels Close a Chapter

May 4, 2023 by Julian Jackson Jr.

Easton’s Eat Sprouts and the Upper Shore Aging Meals on Wheels program joined forces to make a difference for Talbot County’s seniors during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. Together, they provided more than 13,500 nourishing meals to vulnerable seniors in need.

Easton’s Eat Sprout, the innovative and locally-sourced prepared food service , successfully bid on a contract to provide nutritious meals for the Meals on Wheels program, ultimately feeding over 800 homebound seniors. The partnership also led to the innovative Grab and Go initiative, a program that handed out bagged lunches to seniors at Brookletts Place.

Every Tuesday, around 75 lunches were distributed through the Grab and Go program, with Easton’s Eat Sprouts securing the contract to supply these meals as well. The initiative not only benefited the seniors but also provided security for the Eat Sprouts team during the challenging pandemic years.

However, all good things must come to an end. With government funding running out, the partnership between Easton’s Eat Sprouts and Meals on Wheels had to come to a close last week. The last day of providing meals through this collaborative effort marked the conclusion of a successful, rewarding partnership that brought hope and sustenance to seniors in need during a difficult time.

Though this partnership has concluded, the impact it had on the community, as well as the businesses and organizations involved, will be remembered for years to come. Easton’s Eat Sprouts and Meals on Wheels showed us the power of collaboration and how communities can come together to support one another in times of crisis.

This video is approximately 3 minutes in length. For more information on Upper Shore Aging’s Meals on Wheels program please go here. For Eat Sprout please go here.

September 27, 2022 by Julian Jackson Jr.

There are fewer special moments for a town like Cambridge as important as when a new mayor is sworn into office. Beyond the sense of important local history, these moments come with a feeling of hope and change that excites an entire community.

That moment occurred last night when the former judge and city council commissioner Steve Rideout raised his right hand and began his term as the new mayor of Cambridge.

The Spy’s Julian Jackson captured a few moments to share.

Mid-Shore Arts: The Work and Kindness of Patti Aaronson

July 25, 2022 by Julian Jackson Jr.

After 25 years working as a professional in the healthcare sector, Patti Aaronson decided to shift gears. Feeling a strong desire to return to working with her hands, Patti not only began restoring houses in both her native Baltimore but found herself relocating to the Eastern Shore in Cambridge to take on similar projects.

This was also the time when Patti returned to the easel. Eager to highlight the beauty of the Shore’s environment, its special humanity, and, in her words, its “kindness,” she took to both oils and watercolors to document that vision.

“I’ve always had a deep appreciation for beauty, particularly natural beauty and the process of making art is often a part of that for me. I’m also inspired by my desire to develop fully as an artist and a lifelong passion to create. ”

The Spy caught up with Patti in Cambridge last week to talk about her work.

Opening the Door for Harriet’s Ice Cream in Cambridge: A Chat with Oasis and Jazz Myrieckes

June 29, 2022 by Julian Jackson Jr.

There is actually some historical evidence to suggest that Dorchester County’s most famous Harriet loved ice cream. A quick search on Google indicates that Harriet Tubman first discovered it when visiting Philadelphia in 1849. And while there is only modest documentation to this claim, it was certainly enough for Oasis and Jazz Myrieckes to honor Miss Tubman with their new store, Harriet’s Homemade Ice Cream and Cakes, on Race Street in Cambridge for this American hero.

The Spy sent our newest agent, Julian Jackson, Jr., to investigate this welcome addition to the Cambridge food scene a few days ago.

This video is approximately four minutes in length.
