The Waterman’s Health Fair on February 3rd, celebrated a successful event in which thirty-five watermen and their families from Tilghman Island and the surrounding area received health services including blood pressure screening, diabetes screening, HIV/Hepatitis C testing, vision and hearing screening and other important services.
Organizations that partnered with the Talbot County Health Department included the Department of Social Services, Maryland Health Connection and local Pharmacist Melanie Chapple.
Stephanie Latham of the Talbot County Health Department commented on the impact of the event stating that, “We organized this event to bring health services to the watermen, a group that doesn’t always seek out health care, in the hopes that this will be a starting point towards better health. We were thrilled with the turn out and are hoping to make this an annual event.”
The Talbot County Health Department is proud to have had the opportunity to serve Talbot County watermen who work hard within the community and often struggle to obtain health services due to self-employment and location.
Any watermen who were not in attendance but would like to learn more about the services the Health Department has to offer, can contact the Talbot County Health Department at (410) 819-5600.
