The picture-postcard village of Oxford shines it’s brightest at holiday time – from the twinkling white lights of dock trees lining Town Creek to the window candles and blazing hearths of the nineteenth century homes that line the brick-walked streets. “Christmas on the Creek” – a destination weekend – is a town-wide celebration December 2-4, 2011.
Friday: Gospel music and good old-fashioned community caroling Friday at 6:00 pm, at St. Paul’s Church, featuring The Friendship Choir of Waters United Methodist Church.
Saturday: Christmas Bazaar at Church of the Holy Trinity from 9:00 am to noon, featuring baked goods, fresh holiday greenery and handcrafted items. Proceeds benefit outreach programs.
Oxford Library open house from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm with refreshments and a special sale of hardback books.
Mystery Loves Company bookstore, features guest author J.R. MacKenzie to sign her book A Temptation Tale from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. Enjoy refreshments while browsing the store’s outstanding selection of regional themes as well as unique collection of mysteries.
The Ruffled Duck Inn, a charming circa 1876 B&B right in the heart of the town’s Historic District, hosts a holiday “Special-Tea” from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Saturday, complete with traditional tea and sweets.
On both Saturday and Sunday, Oxford’s newest gift shop “The Treasure Chest” will be open from 10:00 am -4:00 pm, with 15% off on all items – plus refreshments and free gift wrapping.
The Oxford Museum will be open Saturday from noon to 6:00 pm with holiday window displays, exhibits, and unique gift shop.
Santa arrives in Town Park at 5:30 pm for the lighting of the official tree.
Oxford Methodist Church hosts a Homemade Soup Supper from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Three choices of soup and dessert included. Dine in or carry out.
Sunday: Oxford Fire House breakfast and photos with Santa from 7:00 to 11:00 am, plus Ladies Auxiliary Gift Shop featuring handcrafted ornaments and gifts along with baked goods and other homemade delicacies.
Oxford Holiday House Tour, sponsored by the Oxford Community Center, from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm. Benefit event includes eight gracious and beautifully appointed homes in the village proper. Tour begins with check-in at Church of the Holy Trinity. Hot soup and other refreshments available for purchase. Historic Combsberry Inn, a circa 1730 English country manor house, features special rates for Saturday evening, plus boxwood and magnolia wreath-making on Sunday from 11 am – 3 pm.
