Plein Air–Easton! Awards Judge M. Stephen Doherty announced the awards in the 2011 Plein Air–Easton! National Competition to a packed crowd at a gala Collectors’ Preview Party held at the Academy Art Museum on July 22.
Doherty is the editor of the recently relaunched PleinAir magazine. Prior to this, Doherty worked for 31 years as editor and publisher of American Artist, Watercolor, Drawing, and Workshop magazines. He is an active outdoor painter who travels around the United States and Europe. He serves on the advisory boards of several arts organizations, including the New York Academy of Art, The Florence Academy, and the Portrait Society of America. He has been a judge in various national and international competitions. Doherty stated that this year’s Plein Air–Easton! competition exhibit is “one of the most outstanding shows I have ever seen.”
Camille Przewodek from Petaluma, CA., for “Moon Vines” won the Grand Prize, Timothy E. Dills Memorial Award for $5,000.
Second place award for $2,000, sponsored by the Academy Art Museum was given to Valerie Craig from St. Davids, PA., for “Heatwave, and third place, $1,000, awarded to Robert J Barber of State College, PA, for “Morning Paper”.
