It takes an exceptional philanthropist to grasp the importance of funding local organizations that would empower future generations of women and girls on the Mid-Shore, and that is exactly what Talbot County’s Alice Ryan did over a decade ago when she worked with the Mid-Shore Community Foundation to establish the Women and Girls Fund in 2003.
Much has changed since those early days. Beyond Alice’s original contribution, other women throughout the Mid-Shore have stepped up to support the Fund, which now has over $750,000 in endowment and has funded over 70 organizations.
The Spy spent some time last week with Fund administrator, Meg van den Berg, to understand the full impact of the Women and Girls Fund throughout the five-county region.
