There are very few honors that a teacher in Talbot County can obtain in their careers which are more coveted than to be recognized as a Teacher of the Year. With hundreds of educators to choose from in the County’s public school system, to be singled out as representing the best of the best is both an exhilarating and a humbling moment for those selected.
That has been Kevin Baum’s reaction since it was announced that he had been awarded the honor last month. In his interview with the Spy, the St. Michaels Elementary School physical education teacher talks about the “surreal” experience it was for him to be nominated, let alone actually win the award, as well as his seventeen years of teaching in the Talbot County School District.
