The Tilghman Packing Plant was opened by brothers S. Taylor and J. Camper Harrison in 1897! A few years later brother O. N. Harrison joined them to establish the Tilghman Canning Company which canned both oysters and vegetables. Facts: ” The Canning Industry in Delmarva” by Harold W. Hurst. This Talbot Historical Society’s H. Robins Hollyday photo was taken of their land operation on August 12, 1944 when the Tilghman Packing Company was given the achievement A Award from the U.S. Government for food production during World War II!
October 29,2016 marks the opening of the Talbot Historical Society’s Canning and Packing on the Eastern Shore Exhibit at the Galleries at Neal House open Saturdays 10-4 through December. Stop by!
