When the Academy Art Museum’s curator Anke Van Wagenberg bumped into the director of the National Gallery a few years ago at a reception, and heard word that some of Robert Rauschenberg’s best work would be headed to storage while a gallery renovation project took place, she jumped at the chance to bring some of that work to Easton.
The result is a rare opportunity for Mid-Shore art lovers to see some of Rauschenberg’s masterpieces up close and personal without going over the Bay Bridge.
In her short Spy introduction to the exhibition, Anke highlights the importance of his work, his use of multimedia, and the special approach he brought to three-dimensional visual art.
