Anyone looking for a good example of the changing demographics and diversity of Talbot County need to look no further than Cub Scout Troop 3 in Easton. On Tuesday evenings at the Oasis Covenant Fellowship meeting hall off of Goldsborough Street, from sixteen to twenty kids from multiple racial and cultural backgrounds, gather weekly to participate in one of this country’s great traditions: Scouting.
The Spy spent some time with Troop 3, (led by volunteer Matt Peters from Chesapeake Multicultural Resource Center) and Frankie Sears, the Senior Executive for the Del-Mar-Va Council of the Boy Scouts of America, to understand the changing face of scouting on the Eastern Shore. This is part of a special program, supported in part by the United Fund of Talbot County, to provide programs and services to local scouting troops to establish new outreach units to enable more youth to experience the benefits and fun of scouting.
