What seems rather incredible to the outside observer is the fact that in this year alone, Talbot Hospice has provided support for over thirty military veterans and their families who are experiencing chronic or terminal illnesses. What doesn’t seem so incredible is for Talbot Hospice to have the remarkable volunteer horsepower to make this such a successful program.
Of course, it helps when one of your board members was instrumental in starting the hospice program at every VA hospital in America. That’s what Anthony Principi did when he was Secretary of Veterans Affairs under George W. Bush. And it also helps to have a Navy veteran nurse help lead the local program, which is what Brenda Stone has been doing for almost twenty years.
Together, with the help of many more devoted volunteers, they provide the stewardship necessary to help our country’s veterans at this critical and emotional time of their lives.
In their joint Spy interview, Anthony and Brenda share their thoughts about the importance of hospice care for vets and their special needs.
This video is approximately five minutes in length. For more information about Talbot Hospice and its Veterans program please go here.
