Dorchester Center for the Arts will present “Teens: Seen and Heard – The Poet Laureate Poetry Workshop with Grace Cavalieri” on January 18, 1:00-3:00 p.m. Open to ages 13-18, the free workshop will involve talks, prompts, and writing on the spot. No previous writing experience required. “We don’t hope to make poems as instant relics” states Cavalieri, “but rather access the ideas always available to us”. Teens can expect to learn methods to jump-start poems at home.
Those under 18 years of age will need to bring signed permission slips which will be furnished at registration so that group photos can be used by the Maryland State Arts Council. After the workshop session 1:00-2:00 p.m., Grace will record each poet with at least a few of their new lines created, to make a podcast of the event.
Call Dorchester Center for the Arts to register: 410-228-7782. There is no cost to attend, but students should bring writing materials to the workshop. Snow date: January 25.
