Last night the Talbot County Council discussed and opened for public comments on three proposed regulations directly impacting the Lakeside housing development in Trappe.
Most of the discussion centered around Resolution 338, which aims to amend Talbot County’s comprehensive water and sewer plan for the Lakeside Wastewater Treatment Plant following a discharge permit issued by the Maryland Department of the Environment. 338 would align the county’s water and sewer plan with environmental regulations and mandate future plant expansions to require amendments for consistency.
Public opinions varied, with some supporting the resolution for ensuring development aligns with comprehensive plans, particularly regarding impacts on schools, roads, and taxes. Others opposed it, arguing it unfairly targets the town of Trappe and hinders its growth management.
The meeting concluded with plans to vote on Resolutions 338, 347, and 348 in March after considering all public inputs and the Planning Commission’s recommendations.
This video is approximately 30 minutes in length.

The Town of Trappe Council should not be making any decision regarding lakeside.
The former President of Council Nick Newman Quit ! Cause he did not like the county telling the town what to do. Selfish much ?
You take an elected position and vote yes to all the wrongs of this development and then step down quit. That position is open for election now for March.
Walter Chase, Tanya Pritchett and Rose Potter. Have no Working knowledge of waste water and vote yes for lakeside wrongs, just to see there name on the ordinance. Example of what happens when uneducated folks are voting on issues they don’t know about.
The best is Brian Schmidt saying the town has the funds for a police department! I guess he did not review the Towns Audit Report regarding towns revenue. Just another example of the disconnect.
Trappe Council should have nothing to do with lakeside because they all are unqualified to make decisions.
Water should be never be the decision of town or county Commisioners!

There should be a clarification or expansion of the SPY lead-in text regarding this item. Yes, there were comments supporting the Amendment 1 of Resolution 338 and there were comments opposing the motion. However, to be fair, the comments opposing the resolution (the TWO comments) were presented by (1) a Trappe town council member, and (2) a paid-by-the-hour (anyone want to research paid-by-whom?) attorney that has worked repeatedly to make sure that the Talbot County taxpayers (who will have the responsibility to bail out Trappe if/when the costs start to come in) have no say in how this for-profit Northern Virginia developer’s mega-project might impact Talbot County — from a character standpoint or financial standpoint.
In contrast, in favor of the Amended Resolution 338 were two County Council Members, some private citizens, a representative of a respected regional environmental organization (Ches Bay Foundation) , a member of a regional land-integrity org (Talbot Preservation Alliance) and two members of Talbot County’s Planning Commission, reminding the Co Council that the county’s Planning Commission recently UNANIMOUSLY supported this resolution 338 Amendment 1 (as has the county’s Public Works Adv Board).
